Mirror, Mirror on the wall

Stand in  front of the mirror. Open yourself up to yourself. Pull back all the layers of you and what is your core? What are you really made of? Take away what others have defined you to be. Step outside the box of others expectations and limitations.  The masquerade is over. Take off your mask of forced smiles. Remove ever trace of disappointment,  regrets, and sorrow.  Force every insult and negative thought to leave your mind. Open your eyes. Exhale. The reflection you see now is untainted. See yourself for the first time from your perspective. Now, fulfill your purpose and do you. After all, who can do you better? Again, I ask you, what are you really made of? Only time will tell. Nothing else stands in your way.

Power of a Woman

If only we knew our true power.
We are built with strong backs and soft hands.
We speak comfort with lips and conceive life between our hips.
We are extraordinary.
Before there was Martin and Malcolm
There was Harriet and Sojourner.
One leading us to freedom and one after we got there, declaring despite all the hardships and loss, I still bare my cross.
Having to work like a man
And although calloused, I still have a woman's hands.
Ain't I a woman?
We are a force to be reckoned with.
More powerful than we can comprehend.
Understanding we are often misunderstood. We carry generations in our wombs.
So full of life we release the pain of our unfertilized soil once a month.
Just a reminder of what we possess.
Our bodies are not meant just for sex.
Our lips speak life into our sons and daughters.
Our hands hold the potential of what is yet to come.
Our arms are the gateways to heavenly hugs.
Our waists are small to allow our lovers to wrap around us to remind us we are loved.
Our hips are wide to give way to the future that lies within our loins.
We are goddesses by design.
I pray this reminds you of who are.
A queen.
